Graphite drying process

Controlled drying of graphite and spherical purified graphite (SPG)

The role of drying in graphite processing

Following purification, washing or coating stages, graphite materials such as spherical purified graphite (SPG) must be dried under carefully controlled conditions to ensure stable downstream handling and consistent product quality.

Fine graphite materials used in battery and advanced material applications require accurate moisture control and stable drying conditions to ensure consistent downstream performance.

Ingetecsa’s Spiral Flash Dryer is specifically designed for this type of demanding powder handling duty, enabling reliable drying performance and stable operation for fine graphite materials.

Spiral Flash Dryer

The Spiral Flash Dryer is particularly suited for drying fine graphite materials, including spherical purified graphite (SPG) under controlled operating conditions. Through very short residence times and intensive gas-solid contact, the system achieves rapid and uniform drying while maintaining stable product quality.

The unique spiral flow pattern ensures efficient heat and mass transfer while minimising product accumulation and fouling inside the dryer. This allows stable operation even with fine powders and variable feed conditions.

SPG is typically a fine, dusty and abrasive material requiring reliable and enclosed handling conditions. As a static drying technology with no moving parts in the hot zone, the Spiral Flash Dryer provides exceptional reliability, high uptime and low maintenance requirements under demanding industrial operating conditions.

The compact design, complete with its own support structure, simplifies installation and plant integration while allowing efficient inspection and maintenance access. Depending on process requirements, the system can be integrated with heat recovery systems, baghouse filters and downstream cooling or conveying equipment.

The result is a consistently dried SPG product with controlled residual moisture and stable handling characteristics suitable for downstream storage, transport or battery material processing.
